When we were younger we walked to the beat of our own drums. We would sing in restaurants and roll on the floor in the middle of airports. We played our own little games with imaginary friends and wore clothes only meant for circus performers. When we were younger our eyes were closed to society. We lived in worlds created solely by our minds, where nothing could touch us and we were free to be ourselves. When we were younger we wanted to be older. We wanted to sit in cafes with half-full starbucks cups and blackberrys and discuss the latest gossip with our friends. Now we are older. Now our singing is restricted to the shower and we would never dare to roll on the floor in fear of damaging our designer jackets. We play games but our friends are the playing pieces and going to the circus is a distant memory now. Our lives create society and our worlds are immersed with it. Other people effect us everyday and our opinions can change by the hour. However this is something we should try desperately to fight. Because when we were younger we were ourselves. Untouched by the glare the world can bring. We were nobody's puppet, but instead the rulers of our own lives. We all had our own shiny crowns. And although many have already given theirs up I struggle to hold onto mine. Because for as long as I can control it my kingdom shall live on. And now that I am a little bit older I miss hearing the sound of my own drum. And because now that I am older, I am strong enough to bring it back. And listen to my own melodies once again.
